Mid-Century Burl Wood and Brass Nightstands by Founders for Thomasville

A striking pair of mid-century modern burl wood nightstands / chest of drawers by Founders for Thomasville, produced in the United States during the 1970s. The clean rectilinear forms let the richly figured burl surfaces take center stage, showcasing swirling grain, clusters of knots, and natural variations that give each piece its own character.

Each nightstand features three generously sized drawers with minimalist round brass pulls. The burl wood continues across the tops and sides, creating a cohesive cabinet-like form, while recessed brass plinth bases add a warm metallic contrast and give the substantial cases an elevated appearance. The hardware and simple silhouette were thoughtful choices, allowing the expressive wood grain to remain the defining feature.

Founded in the mid-20th century, Founders became known for well-made American modern furniture and for its sophisticated use of distinctive woods. Its association with Thomasville further connects these pieces to an important period of American furniture manufacturing, when traditional craftsmanship increasingly embraced cleaner modern forms and more luxurious materials.

As nightstands or compact chests of drawers, the pair combines useful storage with the decorative impact of beautifully figured burl. Retaining the original Founders tag, they offer both documented provenance and the warm material richness that has made vintage burl furniture especially desirable.
